Basic Rifle Shooting Course

Starting April 1, 2014,  you will no longer be able to buy a rifle or shotgun with just a hunting license or 14 day waiting period. You will be required to have ONE of the following: ‣ valid Pistol Permit ‣ valid Eligibility Certificate to Purchase Pistols or Revolvers ‣ valid Eligibility Certificate to Purchase Long Guns

This course teaches the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the safe use of a rifle in target shooting. Each course is at least eight hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

Course Cost: $125, including class materials, targets, certificate upon completion, lunch. and beverages. All courses are taught in Southbury.
